From Rudimentary Tool to Expanding Consciousness
The evolution of hypnosis is fascinating. It has long been a bridge between the conscious and subconscious mind, offering profound insights into human behavior and memory and more recently it has begun to even give insights into the soul’s journey.
I was captivated by the idea of hypnosis at an early age. I remember my father talking about Edgar Casey and his trance states and how, like Casey, my father would wake from a dream and have a cure for his own ailment. Usually, the ingredients were in Latin or Greek or some other language he had no knowledge of. My parents would spend days searching for terms (no internet back then), trying to figure out how to acquire or make the tincture.
In my opinion, hypnosis had a “bad rap” for many decades. People were still living predominantly fearful lives with little courage to explore outside their cultural tunnel vision. However, this changed over time. The tipping point to full awareness of the benefits of the Theta state and its potential has been realized.
Its historical evolution from a rudimentary tool of suggestion to a sophisticated modality used for self-healing, exploring past lives, and interplanetary experiences, reflects not just advancements in technique, but also the expanding frontiers of human consciousness.
This article delves into the rich history of hypnosis, its progression into past life regression and life-between-lives therapy, and its recent role in uncovering cosmic experiences. We will also explore whether these phenomena signify humanity’s evolutionary leap into a new paradigm of existence.
The Origins of Hypnosis
The roots of hypnosis trace back to the 18th century with Franz Anton Mesmer, an Austrian physician who introduced the concept of “animal magnetism.” Mesmer believed that an invisible natural force could be harnessed to heal physical and psychological ailments. Though his theories lacked scientific grounding, his practices laid the foundation for hypnotism.
In the 19th century, James Braid, a Scottish surgeon, coined the term “hypnosis” from the Greek word hypnos, meaning sleep. Braid moved the practice from mystical interpretations to a more scientific approach, emphasizing focused attention and suggestion rather than magnetic fluids. Hypnosis soon gained traction in clinical settings, particularly for pain management and psychological therapy.
Ironically, I have found that sometimes it takes hypnosis (nearly putting someone to sleep), to wake them up. It has become a tool in my practice to help people discover their Higher Self and become aware of the fact of their existence beyond their physical body. They discover they are in fact a multi-dimensional being. This empowers them to go inside themselves for answers and begin exploring a vast new world of understanding.
The Emergence of Past Life Regression
By the mid-20th century, hypnosis began transcending its clinical roots. Practitioners like Dr. Denys Kelsey and Morey Bernstein explored hypnosis as a gateway to past life memories. Bernstein’s work with Virginia Tighe, documented in The Search for Bridey Murphy (1956), captivated public interest, sparking widespread curiosity about reincarnation.
However, it was Dr. Brian Weiss, a prominent psychiatrist, who brought past life regression into mainstream consciousness. His groundbreaking book, Many Lives, Many Masters (1988), detailed his experiences with a patient who under hypnosis recalled vivid past life memories. Weiss’s work suggested that past life regression could not only reveal historical incarnations, but also serve as a therapeutic tool, to heal phobias, traumas, and unexplained emotional patterns.
I was captivated by Dr. Weiss’s book in my early twenties, because by the age of seven I was aware of several past lives. They were a matter of fact for me. I relived portions of them as lucid waking dreams and each one helped me understand something about myself. Further, they helped me codify the course of my life. I knew my future, because I understood the karma I needed to burn off and why. I was acutely aware of the major contracts I had made before coming into this lifetime.
The book Many Lives, Many Masters was a godsend for me, because it helped me verbalize what I inherently understood about reincarnation. It anchored my confidence to speak with others and gave me the courage to align with my highest purpose in life.
Life Between Lives Hypnotherapy
Building on the foundation of past life regression, Dr. Michael Newton pioneered Life Between Lives (LBL) hypnotherapy. Newton’s clients, under deep hypnotic states, accessed memories of the inter-life realm—the period between incarnations where souls review past lives, plan future ones, and connect with spiritual guides and soul groups. His books, Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls, offer compelling case studies that describe consistent, detailed accounts of the afterlife, irrespective of the clients’ cultural or religious backgrounds.
LBL hypnotherapy has provided profound insights into the soul’s evolution, the purpose of reincarnation, and humanity’s collective spiritual journey. It suggests that our lives are not isolated events but interconnected threads within a vast, multidimensional tapestry.
I remember Newton’s book Journey of Souls, took me to another level of awareness. I had not yet experienced a life between lives. The idea of it was so logical I couldn’t believe I hadn’t wondered about it already, especially since I knew I had made contracts before coming into this lifetime. That was done during a life between lives. By this time I had been consciously soul traveling, and having inner experiences for years. Why not experience a life between lives? Extra Terrestrial Encounters and Interplanetary Memories
In recent decades, hypnosis has ventured even further into the cosmic unknown. Practitioners like Dolores Cannon, with her Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT), reported clients recalling not just past Earth lives but also experiences on other planets and interactions with non-human intelligences. Cannon’s extensive body of work, including The Custodians and The Convoluted Universe series, documents sessions where individuals describe lifetimes as extraterrestrial beings, experiences aboard spacecraft, and missions tied to Earth’s evolution.
Similarly, Dr. John Mack, a Harvard psychiatrist, explored alien abduction phenomena through hypnotic regression. His research suggested that these experiences were not mere psychological anomalies but potentially transformative events that challenged our understanding of reality.
The Awakening of Human Consciousness
The increasing prevalence of past life memories, interplanetary recollections, and extraterrestrial encounters raises a compelling question: Are these phenomena a byproduct of humanity’s awakening consciousness?
Many spiritual thinkers understand that we are in the midst of a global shift in consciousness, often referred to as the “Great Awakening.” This shift aligns with ancient prophecies, astrological transitions, and quantum theories suggesting a move toward higher vibrational states of awareness.
In my estimation this is no longer theory or prophecy. The shift has been occurring for over thirty years and crowning for the past ten. 2025 to 2027 are the final birthing years that will seem chaotic, scary and overwhelming. For some, it will be painful with every last contraction. For others it will be handled with calm presence and little suffering. But when it is over, the realization that we have passed through a type of portal into a greater frequency of light and conscious connection, will have been worth it all.
As humanity evolves, our capacity to access multidimensional experiences appears to be expanding. Hypnosis, in this context, serves as a tool to peel back the veils of linear time and physical reality, revealing the vastness of our true nature.
Are We Becoming a New Kind of Human?
The cumulative effect of these hypnotic revelations suggests that humanity is on the cusp of an evolutionary leap—not merely biological but consciousness-based. Traits associated with this new paradigm include heightened intuition, telepathic abilities, expanded empathy, and a deep recognition of our interconnectedness with all life, both terrestrial and cosmic.
This evolution might be seen as the emergence of “Homo Spiritus” or “Homo Galacticus”—terms that reflect a species aware of its multidimensional existence. As more individuals awaken to their eternal, interstellar, and spiritual identities, our collective reality is shifting toward greater unity, balance, and cosmic understanding.
Conclusion
The history of hypnosis mirrors humanity’s evolving quest for self-discovery. From Mesmer’s magnetic theories to modern explorations of past lives, interplanetary incarnations, and cosmic consciousness, hypnosis consistently unveils deeper layers of our existence.
Whether these revelations signify an evolutionary transition or simply reflect the boundless nature of human potential, one thing is clear: we are far more than we have been taught to believe. As we continue to awaken, hypnosis remains a powerful key to unlocking the infinite dimensions of who we truly are and what we have been co-creating all along.
